Abstract

Although most of effects of nuclear factor ›kappaB (NF-k›B) is related to inflammatoryresponse, this nuclear factor has been shown to be involved in the development ofcardiac hypertrophy resulted by diverse stimuli. In the present study, we willinvestigate whether the thyroid hormone (TH) action leading to cardiac hypertrophy ismediated by NF-k›B. Transgenic mice that contain specific mutations that preventIk›B phosphorylation and degradation and thereby inhibit NF-›kB activation in cardiactissue as well as wild-type mice will be submitted to hyperthyroidism for 14 days.Morphological and functional parameters correlated to cardiac hypertrophy responsewill be analyzed. These findings will improve understanding of the cardiachypertrophy observed in hyperthyroidism and provide new insights into thegeneration of future therapeutic strategies. (AU)
