Abstract

Recent evidences show that sympathetic nervous system (SNS) hyperactivation induced by chronic stress can influence cancer evolution. In the present study we will use Spontaneous Hypertensive Rats (SHR), a strain of rats with sympathetic nervous system hyperactivity to analyze the effects of sympathetic hiperactivity on the incidence of 4NQO-induced oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). 30 male wistar rats and 30 male SHR rats will be submitted to oral carcinogenesis with 4NQO for 5 months when they will be euthanized to assess the incidence and tongue SCC invasion. To analyze the effects of the sympathetic hiperactivity on the progression tumor-related genes, IL-6, MMP-2, MMP-9, VEGF and p16 expression in tumors will be evaluated by real time PCR. (AU)
