Abstract

Neotropical Myrtaceae species are circumscribed in Myrtoideae, Myrteae tribe. Recent phylogenetic analyzes confirmed Eugenia monophyly hypothesis. In addition, were recognized some phylogenetic groups organized in informal clades, such as clade 7, which corresponds to the Calycorectes genus. Traditionally, Calycorectes genus was recognized as distinct from Eugenia by calyx lobes fused in bud. There is no support to keep Calycorectes as a genus, however, is necessary to increase the amount of terminal to test monophyletism hypothesis of Calycorectes and assess the internal relationship among species. This is one of the goals of this research project. Moreover, the study of characters evolution and biogeography of Calycorectes may reveal new evidences about its evolution process in Myrtaceae and extend the knowledge of the Neotropical biodiversity evolution. To this end, will be performed field expeditions to obtain material to morphological and molecular analysis. The phylogenetic analysis will be consist of an inner group of at least 80% of the Calycorectes species. The out group will be performed with Myrtus and Syzygium species. The analysis will be performed based on ITS and ETS nuclear regions, psbA-trnH plastidial region and morphological characters. The molecular and morphological dataset will be analyzed with parsimony and Bayesian inference. For biogeographic analysis will be considered cladrograms from phylogenic analysis and selected the most appropriate performed method. Confirmed the Calycorectes monophyly, the taxonomic revision aims at cataloging biodiversity and taxonomic stability. We expected to achieve consistent phylogenetic hypothesis and at least three papers that will be submitted to international journals. (AU)
