Abstract

In this project we analyse important open issues regarding the synchronization of Kuramoto oscillators in complex networks. More precisely, we will study the synchronization of networks that have topological structure similar as observed in real networks. By developing mean-field approximation in these systems, we aim at quantifying the contribution of particular patterns of connections to the synchronization of real-world networks. Another problem we tackle in this project is the recently reported phenomenon of explosive synchronization. We plan to investigate the critical correlation between intrinsic dynamics and local topology necessary for the emergence of discontinuous transitions in scale-free networks. In this project we will also address the synchronization of stochastic Kuramoto oscillators using the closure scheme provided by the Gaussian approximation. These investigations will complement the studies developed in the initial doctorate project. (AU)
