Abstract

Nowadays the new term "Non-Timber Forest Products" is expanding due to its huge importance in economic activity terms from the international market to Forest Communities' income increasing, using non-timber products as a major household survival source. The main goal of valuing these new products is related to sustainable forest management in order to promote the conservation of standing forest and its biodiversity. However there is a lack of studies on the ecological aspects of these species and techniques for the sustainable management of non-timber forest products. Hence, this work aims to analyse and retrieve data on the ecological aspect of Carapa guianensis Aublet ( Andiroba ) as well as community organization's aspects associated with the production and marketing of oil extracted from the seeds of the species . Data on population structure, regeneration and productivity of the species, Andiroba's oil processing and marketing, and traditional knowledge of extractive communities in the region of Almerim - Pará (BR) will be obtained.
