Abstract

The expressions of the sexualities of the users of mental health services are stigmatized, because they are understood as deviant, inadequate, uncontrolled and, for those reasons, they are often repressed. Being considered as affected by an illness and under treatment, they usually have denied their desires and hegemonic sexual practices. Therefore, we see how the dispositive of sexualities and mental health cross each other. In this context, our work intends to reflect and problematize the different discourses about sexualities and the gender's questions in the field of mental health. What knowledge concerning the relation between sexualities and psychosocial attention is supporting instructional and scientific material distributed to professionals in health service and to its user as well? Our theoretical support stands on post-structuralist and queer study's authors, and our methodology relies on the analysis of the content. The articulation of sexualities and mental health - regarding the precepts of psychosocial attention - is a challenge to public policy, as it reveals limitations. For instance, comprehending the sexualities as something important and necessary to be worked on in mental health services and understanding the users as desirable and desiring affection represent limitations - discoursed throughout the text - that have to be overcome. In this sense, we point out the importance of including the problematization of these questions in the everyday care and in the consolidation of the purposes of the psychosocial attention. (AU)
