Abstract

Renewable fuels production got a big boost in recent years. One alternative is the production of vegetable oils with the ability to replace all or partly the diesel fuel derived from oil. The aim of the proposed design is to study the physical and chemical properties of ethyl biodiesel from a mixture composed of virgin castor oil with residual oil and fats on a laboratory scale. For the present design is employed 0.8% catalyst at a temperature around 55 ° C for 80 min. which, according to results of previous studies, showed better performance in alkaline catalysis reaction. For characterization of biodiesel obtained from different mixtures will be made several physical-chemical analysis as acid values, iodine content, glycerin, sulfur and cetane, moisture content, density, average composition of fatty acid esters , absorption spectroscopy in the infrared and proton nuclear magnetic resonance. The rheological behavior will be determined in a rotational viscometer at different shear rates.
