Abstract

This research Project aims at understanding of how models such as the CE-QUAL-W2 may be used to predict and manage possible water quality pollution events, and also the possible management processes to restore water quality requirements in a river system. Also, this study will help in understanding the sensitivity of water quality predictions to uncertainties in various flow, transport, and hydrologic parameters. In this analysis initial simulations will be utilized to simulate pollution concentration pattern over time for different flow scenarios, as well as the natural flow patterns. The simulation results will be tested for different flow scenarios to determine the flow requirements to reduce the pollutant levels below the applicable permissible limits. Ideal flow patterns to prevent pollution of the river will be determined by simulation, and the effect of variation in water quality of a tributary flow will be also incorporated to determine water quality downstream.
