Abstract

This research project arises from our project FAPESP No. 2014/09376-6, which first goal is to analyze the productive spatial circuit and the cooperation circles of the Brazilian specialty coffee production, specifically the Fairtrade, Organic and Gourmet. It intends to demonstrate to what extent the insertion of small-scale coffee farmers in this kind of market provides a larger autonomy and identity for the small coffee producers, when comparing this production and the conventional coffee production. The specialty coffee market represents specificities that enables adding value and create new relations among the productive spatial circuit agents, thus, several small producers have been searching for improve themselves on that matter. In this way, the present abroad internship research proposal most important goal is to perform a theoretical deepness into concepts such as globalization and geographic scales, in order to understand if the specialty coffee market makes possible for the small producers the "jumping of scales." Therefore, will be accomplished bibliographic research, participation on academic conferences and attendance to post-graduation subjects of The Graduate Center da City University of New York (CUNY), on the 2015-second semester. The quoted institution is a reference on the discussions about the featured themes, and it counts on notable Contemporary Geography names on the professors' staff, such as Cindi Katz, David Harvey, Ruth Gilmore, James Biles, among others.
