Abstract

The research to be carried out in Japan aims to understand the contradictions in the global production chain of coffee, an essential component of the agri-food system operating in the conventional market. It will examine the potential for the production and commercialization of specialty coffees with certificates or geographical indication as an alternative strategy for small producers in the Norte Pioneiro do Paraná (Brazil) and Eje Cafetero (Colombia). It will engage with conceptual and theoretical-methodological debates related to the production of commodities, the global value chain of coffee and the world circuit of coffee cultivation. To achieve these objectives it will be necessary to: participate in conferences and research group meetings, conduct literature reviews, collect data, analyse information from secondary sources, realize interviews with actors relevant to the research, such as teachers and researchers, importers of specialty coffee, coffee buyers and consumers, and carry out technical visits to learn about the functioning of certificates and geographical indications for other commodity products. It will aim to deepen understandings of alternative redistribution within the global value chain in the commercialization of specialty coffee. (AU)
