Abstract

The aim of this study will be to evaluate the impact of Atraumatic Restauration Treatment (ART) associated with two oral health educational strategies on oral health related to quality of life (OHRQoL) among school children. 215 children will be selected, aged six and seven years old, both gender, from Public Elementary School in Piracicaba, São Paulo. The children will be grouped in five groups according to presence (experimental group - GE) or absence of caries (control group - GC) and whom received or not the educational strategies before ART procedures: traditional strategy + ART (GC1=43; GE1=43) and enhanced strategy + ART (GC2=43 and GE2=43) and ART (GE3=43). The traditional strategy consists of an explanation of caries etiological factors, oral health orientation and practices during four weeks, once a week. The enhanced strategy consists of the same period and content of traditional strategy in addition to caries lesion self-visualization with mirror and orientation about ART´s importance, indication and stages. Oral hygiene will be evaluated by presence of visible biofilm in superior incisors and presence of gengivitis, in two moments: before educational strategy and before ART. To evaluate children perception related to OHRQoL, a Brazilian short version will be used, Child Perceptions Questionnaire (16-CPQ8-10), 16 items, in three moments: before educational strategy, before and two weeks after ART. Oral health changed perception will be evaluated by only one question, answered after educational strategy and after ART. ART consists of the infected dentin removal using hand instruments followed by the glass ionomer cement restoration. The descriptive of the studied variables and their correlations will be analyzed by descriptive statistical analysis, normality test, parametric and non-parametric tests, where appropriated. The level of significance level considered will be ±=0,05. (AU)
