Abstract

The color selection procedure of restorative materials depends on a shade guide and is closely related to the esthetic quality of the restoration. This study aims to access the effect of light and disinfectant solutions in optical stability of shade guides used for color selection of esthetic restorative materials. Fifty shade guides (Biotone IPN, Dentsply) will be submitted to the initial color reading (Easyshade, Vita) with the use of standardizing device position for readouts. Then it will be separated into 5 groups (n=10) according to the treatment that will be submitted. The G1 will be submitted to the action of distilled water (control). G2 and G3 will be subjected to a alcohol 70% and 1% sodium hypochlorite disinfection, respectively, by means of spraying the solutions simulating 6 months of use in practice. The G4 will be kept in complete absence of light (control) and the G5 Group will be maintained under the action of fluorescent light of the environment by the same trial period, after which the final color readouts will be obtained. The values obtained for color stability (“E) and their coordinates for each color of the shade guide will be analyzed according to the distribution of the data and the appropriate statistical test.
