Abstract

The research project proposes the analysis of the work Os Mortos de sobrecasaca: obras, autores e problemas da literatura brasileira. Ensaios e estudos 1940-1960 de Álvaro Lins (1912-1970). The book will be read and studied being intended to understanding the formation of the national literary canon from the perspective of the critic, because the work includes in the subtitle the purpose of building a balance on the modernist legacy for literature and culture in Brazil. This composition enables the consolidation and construction of thought about Brazilian culture, as it indicates an examination of the twenty years of ripening of the modernist proposals from a reflection that is organized as a history of Brazilian literature based on the main writers of the time. The research will seek to explain and understand the criteria that Alvaro Lins used to select and rank the authors in the anthology Os Mortos de Sobrecasaca, through the most striking features, a peculiar fragment, the genre in which obtained more featured, besides the work that became essential for the Brazilian literature. Reflect, therefore, on the proposal of a critic who composed a "set of values", is to establish the parameters of judgments about those writers who represent the modernist canon of national literature.
