Abstract

This proposal to support an application for a Fapesp's "Scientific Initiation" scholarship, for a student of Agricultural Sciences of ESALQ/USP, is part of a "Thematic Project" of the responsability of the tutor. It is intended to offer the student a training on methodology and philosophy of plant pathology and acarology research. The main aim of the works to be carried out is to increase the knowledge about a Brevipalpus transmitted virus- cytoplasmic type (BTV-C), the Solanum violaefolium ringspot virus- SvRSV, a putative member of the genus Cilevirus, represented by the Citrus leprosis virus C (CiLV-C). Though SvRSV is not involved so far in economically importante problem, it representes a conveniente laboratory model to study BTV-C. Programmed activities include: production of S. violaefolium plants under controlled conditions, standarization of the colonization procedures of the vector B. obovatus; evaluation of common bean or other plant as indicators responding in short period; determination of basic parameter of virus-vector relationship; evaluation of diferent B. obovatus and other Brevipalpus species in the ability to transmit SvRSV and the proper identification of these mite populations; attempts to detect the virus in the mite vector.
