Abstract

The objective of this in vitro study will evaluate the mechanical and physical-chemical performance of zinc-modified adhesives (study in two-phases). The first phase involved the manipulation of experimental adhesives (adhesives models) in the ratio of BisGMA/HEMA (55%/ 45% mol), plus hydrophobic camphorquinone photoinitiator (0.5 mol%) and hydrophilic co-photoinitiator ethyl 4-dimethylamino benzoate (EDMAB) (0.5 mol%). In a pilot study, concentrations of 1%, 2%, 5% and 10% of ZnO nanoparticles and zinc methacrylate have been inserted. The concentration was chosen based on the highest concentration that did not altered the degree of conversion in Micro-Raman spectroscopy of zinc-modified adhesives compared to control adhesive. Then the experimental adhesives will be divided into 3 groups: Group 1 (Control adhesive): adhesive without modification; Group 2 (ZnO nanoparticles): Zinc-modified adhesive with the inclusion of the ZnO nanoparticles (1% wt); Group 3 (zinc methacrylate): Zinc-modified adhesive with the inclusion of zinc methacrylate (1%wt). The second phase will involve mechanical and physical-chemical performance of the experimental adhesives: (1) Absorption and solubility in water, (2) flexural strength and modulus of elasticity, (3) Resilient modulus and diametral tensile strength, (4) Measurement of Angle contact. After evaluation of the results obtained, the most appropriate statistical model is applied. (AU)
