Abstract

When studying innovation, great attention is given to emerging technologies, which have the potential to be highly productive and stimulating investment in promising technologies. The patents documents are an extremely useful tool for identifying technological trends. Using the criteria of co-classification of patents, the project proposes an analysis of technology trend based on quantitative and qualitative methods applied to the red biotechnology field. The first method use an improved version of the superlimit cross impact matrix of Kim et al. (2011) that considers not only indirect impacts between technologies but also their evolution in time, identifying stages of growth, maturity and technology saturation. The second is a thorough qualitative analysis of these promising technologies and their application and guidance to biotechnology industries working at the red sector, as a workshop event, in order to strengthen the research and development activities focusing on these technologies. With the development of this project, it is expected an increase on attraction of public and private investments in companies working at the red biotechnology field with intention to develop products on promising technologies, which encourages competitiveness face international markets and contributes to innovation in the country.
