Abstract

Cancer is the second cause of death by disease, subsequent cardiovascular diseases. Continued population growth and aging, according to the latest report of 2013, from the International Agency for Research on Cancer IARC / WHO, the incidence of cancer increased more than 20% in the last decade. In Brazil there will be 576 000 new cases, while in the world, it is expected to 2030, 27 million new cases are expected. Among the possibilities for cancer treatment, radiotherapy and, brachytherapy, is one of the modalities used for the application of ionizing radiation is applied in the region where you want to extinguish the cancer, increasing cell death. However, some adverse side effects of treatment, the patient still bring evil consequences , as in the case of tissue radionecrosis. Palliative treatments with creams, oils, and "spray" are used to ameliorate the pain sensation while in more severe cases, anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs may be administered using even curative grafts. Alternative for pain relief, such as low power laser He-Ne, methods have has been used with significant results and mainly in use on wounds with interruption and post-surgical healing process, however it is still not tested on burns by radiotherapy. Radionecrosis animal models have been described using teletherapy though the Brachytherapy adverse effects on tissue has not yet been reported. In this way, aiming at solving the existing problems, we propose an animal model of cutaneous radionecrosis induced in athymic mouse (Nu/Nu) in which 125I seeds with 1 mCi and 5 mCi activity will be introduced into the dorsal subcutaneous tissue, where it is expected to occur injury, for later use of continues 3 mW laser therapy low power He-Ne as an adjunct to curative treatment.
