Abstract

The characterization of the bitch's reproductive physiology has a great importance for the improvement and development of applied biotechnologies. Different fields of study are well defined for the species, like, for example, the bidimensional ultrasonography of the uterus. However, the characterization of the uterine hemodynamics, well described for pregnancy, is not defined for the stages of the estrus cycle, being necessary efforts to better understand the vascular changes. Therefore, the objective of this study is to characterize the uterine hemodynamics in female dogs during the estrus cycle, composed by proestrus, estrus, diestrus and anestrus. There will be used, in a pilot project, ten females Golden Retrievers. All females will be analyzed during an entire estrus cycle, with two evaluations in each stage: at the beginning and at the end of proestrus and estrus, at the middle and at the end of diestrus and anestrus. The assessments will consist in an ultrasonographic exam and measurement of arterial blood pressure, besides the complementary exams: vaginoscopy and vaginal cytology, for the determination of the estrus cycle stage. In the ultrasonographic exam, the following variables will be evaluated: diameter, regularity, echogenicity and echotexture of the uterine parenchyma in bidimensional mode and qualitative characterization of the uterine vascularization in color Doppler mode, besides the variables PS, ED, TAMAX, RI, PI, S/D of the uterine arteries in pulsed Doppler. In conclusion, this study intends to contribute for the characterization of the normal hemodynamics of the uterus, to in the future assist in the development of biotechnologies and in the assessment of uterine pathologies.
