Abstract

Breast cancer is a complex and multifactorial disease. The tumor microenvironment is a heterogeneous environment with multiple interactions between tumor and other cell types, which greatly influence the behavior of tumor cells. Many studies have revealed advantages of three-dimensional culture techniques (3D) over traditional two-dimensional monolayer cultures (2D). The 3D cultures better mimic the tumor microenvironment found in vivo, as well as the interaction of cells with the extracellular matrix (ECM). Three-dimensional cell culture have been produced different responses compared to those found in 2D cultures, such as increased resistance of tumor cells to various drugs, and increased selectively and sensitivity to tumor cells, relative to normal cells. This project aims at learning new techniques for three-dimensional cell culture in a world reference center and to test the molecule [10]-gingerol in breast tumor cells using 3D culture. Later, these new techniques will be used in the laboratory of origin for the screening of candidate substances to new drugs with antitumor potential. (AU)
