Abstract

This research project intends to study the music creation as a pedagogical tool and its relation to the reforming educational ideas of the scholar institution from the beginning of twentieth century. Based on results from previous research, which had as object the study of the development of music education inside Célestin Freinet's Pedagogy, the hypothesis to be investigated are the following: (I) When compared to the movements that criticized the traditional scholar education, it seems that there was a delay for music education to take the free creation as a principle for students. (II) Generally, twentieth-century music education proposals seem little connected with the discussions that guided the paths to the scholar institution reforms. The progresses in this area seem more founded in aesthetical conceptions than in pedagogical ideas. (III) The creative process as pedagogical tool seems to be the privileged point of approach between music education and pedagogy, considering the recent history of both areas and their contemporary challenges. In order to develop a deep study on such hypothesis, it is proposed in this project a qualitative research based on literature analysis. The specific literature will be organized in three groups, as following: (I) primary and secondary sources reporting to the recent history and actuality of creative practices in music education, (II) primary and secondary sources concerning movements that criticized the traditional education, mainly in twentieth century and (III) reports of discussions and activities of music education inside the reform school movements, focusing on the creative aspect.
