Abstract

This research project will be conducted together with the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, under the supervision of Professor Ph.D Francisco Artur Vaz de Tomé Laranjo. The proposal's purpose is to investigate the possible interconnections between photography and painting, starting from a poetic experimentation that considers the powers involved in each individual medium, but also seeking to critically reference the involved processes and finally ending up on the writing of an essay about the questions that will rise up from this experience. The search for a specific locus for research has to do with the contextual possibility of the environment offered by the Faculty of Fine Arts and the cultural institutions of the city of Porto, particularly the Serralves Foundation and the Portuguese center of photography, which through their acervum will contribute as an important research database of images, bibliography and different documents, making this of great impact to the research. Besides, there is also the recognition from the applicant of the importance of the contemporary artistic and cultural environment of Portugal and, because of it, the possibility of an extensive relationship (the six months proposed) that will be of grand contribution to the development of the artistic and academic research proposed here.
