Geochronology of veredas and campos de murundus environments on the Uberlândia - Uberaba plateau : implications for landscape development

Abstract

Plateaus are important relief unit in the Cerrado where they are located, geosystems, type veredas and campos de murundus, which are important water recharge area. In the region Triângulo Mineiro-MG is located in Uberlandia Uberaba plateau that has these geosystems associated with springs of streams, rivers, and river plains. The origin of these environments are associated with climatic pulses occurring in the Holocene, which provided environmental conditions for entalhameto and widening of river channels on the plateau, in a wet / dry and hot / warm periods. Paleoclimate and neo-tectonic action changed Holocene landscapes in the Cerrado in Minas Gerais generating different stages of evolution of the landscape. To prove this hypothesis this project proposes to conduct geochronological studies, through the method of absolute dating by Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL) in floodplains and associated geosystems, on that plateau. The application of morphometric analysis in the drainage network also points clues about the origin of these environments, as well as on their evolution. Thematic maps and profiles made explicit the results inferring on the evolution of the landscape.
