Abstract The recent achievements in "cultural" area by Brazil carry within several questions about how our cities are growing. Megaevents for which the country has become host, the World Cup in 2014, and the Olympic Games in 2016, are great opportunities for investments in infrastructure and iconic buildings such as stadiums, museums, arenas. In what way Brazil is building the urban space for these megaevents reflects ongoing trends and architectural debates, which deserve a more close analysis. To document these events of spectacular proportions in Brazil, focusing on new architectural projects or on restoration/retrofit/remodelling of existing ones, is a chance to understand the meaning of megaevents for the country and its society. In this Master Thesis, we intend to make a compilatory work focused on the architectural projects that have been developed, built or are on construction, for the Olympic Games in Rio 2016. As a final result, a compendium that aims to trace an architecture and urbanism panorama of brazilian cultural field, trying to understand its influences, debates, concepts, technologies, qualities or even weaknesses. A synthesis of the architecture made in the country, articulating images and theorical debates with focus on developed projects. (AU) | |
