Abstract

Objectives: To investigate the heart rate variability (HRV) at rest; adjustments of heart rate (HR) in the firstl 10 seconds of the exercise; the sensitivity of the parasympathetic indices to identify the anaerobic threshold (AT); autonomic changes; if a smaller sympathetic modulation at rest interferes in heart rate recovery after muscle contraction. Introduction: Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (DM2), metabolic disease characterized by hyperglycemia, affects about 382 million people worldwide and in the long term, it can cause autonomic dysfunction and various comorbidities that affect mainly the cardiovascular system. High glucose levels damage the peripheral nerve fibers decreasing parasympathetic activity (stimulates the pancreatic ²-cells) and increased sympathetic activity. Materials and Methods: The sample will be compoud by 40 individuals of both sexes, over 40 years, equally divided into two groups: group 1 (diagnosed with type 2 diabetes after 30 years old) and group 2 (control group - not diabetic). The autonomic evaluation will be made: a) Valsalva maneuver; b) maneuver to accentuate sinus respiratory arrhythmia; c) test with isometric exercise (handgrip); d) active postural change. Records: HR and HRV at rest, exercise (handgrip) and recovery; blood collection for determining the lactate threshold (LT); and determining the AT through the HRV. The data of HR and HRV are presented as mean and standard deviation, and analyzed indexes are: a) RMSSD; b) pNN50; c) High Frequency (HF); d) low frequency (LF); e) LF / HF. Hypothesis: The HRV indices pf the parasympathetic system are sensitive to identify the AT and autonomic changes, as well as relate to the HR variation during exercise and recovery.
