Abstract This main objective of this research proposal is to study and to develop noncontact transportation systems of plane objects based on near-field acoustic levitation. A typical setup of noncontact transportation system consists of two Langevin-type transducers and an aluminum plate. The transducers are connected at the ends of the aluminum plate. A flexural traveling wave is generated in the plate by connecting one transducer to a sinusoidal electrical signal and the other transducer to an electric circuit composed by an inductor and a resistor. When a plane object is placed above the vibrating plate, it levitates and it is transported in the direction of the traveling wave. Both the transducers and the vibrating plate will be designed through finite element simulations. Then a prototype will be fabricated and it will be characterized by using an electrical impedance analyzer and a laser vibrometer. The experimental results will be compared with that predicted by the finite element simulations. | |
