Abstract

The scarcity of islets is an obstacle to the widespread use of islets for allotransplantation. Besides many pancreas donor are not suitable for extraction of islets, because they do not meet the selection criteria and the fact of improper manipulation of islets, only a small number of islet transplants can be performed. It is therefore essential to develop an unlimited source of cells capable of secreting insulin. The objective of this study is to compare rapamycin and cyclosporine immunosuppressive effects on islet allograft in rats. (AU)
