Abstract

The purpose of this project is to monitor and steer the conditional evolution of continuous variable states and quantum correlations in very general settings. We are going to consider Gaussian and non-Gaussian states in optical cavities and follow their evolution through homodyne, heterodyne and general-dyne continuos measurements. We are interested in studying all the stages of the process, beginning with the generation of non-classical states through linear (Gaussian states) or non-linear processes (non-Gaussian states) and in controlling the evolution by the implementation of control feedback protocols, mediated by either measurements or by input-output relationships (coherent feedback). We will also explore the possibility of implementing quantum feedback control schemes based on non-Gaussian measurements, by taking deviations from the standard homodyne detection scheme. The study will then be applied specifically to opto-mechanical systems, and in particular to the levitated opto-mechanics set-up at UCL.
