Abstract

In this project, it is presented a research proposal to be developed in Input Devices and Music Interaction Laboratory (IDMIL) - Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology - headed by Professor Marcelo Wanderley, PhD, at McGill University - Canada. The work plan for this internship aims to use aspects, processes and results of the artistic production from recitals presented as Study Cases approaching corporal action, pianistic practice and computational support performed at State University of Campinas - Unicamp. The objective is to use IDMIL's motion capture technology to generate data related to two previous study cases and then analyze implications regarding interpretative points-of-view, produced sonority and motion matrices. It is expected from this analysis to provide relations between expressive sound interactions and performer's quality of motion. Such analysis can add important data concerning the comparison of alternative interpretative techniques related to motion situations on performances and they will be grounded on two kinds of motion: a) performing with extended techniques on piano playing; and b) gestural performance using motion capture only, with no piano. In order to explore the facts as artistic manifestations, the motion matrices derived from the study cases will be used in an authorial creative process that will involve the usage of IDMIL's technological solutions in consonance with points-of-view related to theoretical references about corporal techniques previously studied during the research.
