Abstract

Throughout history, motherhood was conceived as a natural destination for women, becoming something that permeated the lives of many women as something unquestionable. However, over time the role of women has been changing. In the current context, we can see the growing number of women who choose a life without children, raising the question of motherhood, as a path inherent to "women being", as an important point in the reflections field. Thereby, we aim our research in order to reflect on this experience as a new possibility of choosing for women, rescuing the transformations that the "woman being" experienced historically and socially to understand the current positions of women. We also seek to investigate the different reasons for this choice and the echoes it can have. The investigation of these dimensions will occur from a qualitative research that uses of semi-structured interviews as data collection instrument. The analyze of the data obtained in the interviews shall be conducted to establish a dialogue between the material collected, the psychoanalytic studies on the topics addressed, the historical background and the female transformations in society. We intend to let these experiences speak for themselves, give voice to this "woman being". It's of fundamental importance to reflect on the female "beyond motherhood". Thus, the research is intended to contribute to the current discussions about motherhood and the feminine, so that the stigmas that relate to non-maternity may be reconsidered from a contextualized look of the issue.
