Abstract

The max-tree is a data structure that has been successfully used in many applications, many of them devoted to medical image processing. This Ph.D. project has three main research lines: max-tree theory, algorithms and applications. This research internship abroad aims to develop the applications. More specifically, we intend to develop the skull-stripping and the segmentation of the carotid artery wall applicationsboth using MR images. This internship abroad will benefit the student, since he will have the opportunity ofworking and establishing contact with a well-known group with an international reputation for excellence in medical imaging research. In addition, their group has access to brain MRI data acquired in different MRI scanners across Canada, and many of the MR images have their associated ground-truths, which is essentialto validate the methodologies that are being developed.
