Abstract

Cancer is one of the main cause of death. Several studies show the protector effect of many nutrients, like polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acid and branched-chain amino acid, as leucine, acting on the preventive way or either modulator against the effects produced by cancer growth. Nowadays, many studies claim that maternal exposure to certain environmental and diets factors, during the embryonic development, can influence the embryo phenotype, changing the risk of developing diseases during late-life, such as cancer. Cancer treatment and prognosis lead the host to several physiological and metabolic changes. Therefore further studies are necessary to prevent the disease, and also improving host responses. The main purpose of this work is to evaluate the efficiency of nutritional supplementation with leucine and/or polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acid on preventing or minimizing the damage effects caused by Walker 256 carcinoma on hepatic enzymes activities of adult rats, which were subjected to leucine-rich and/or omega-3-rich diets during the pregnancy or weaning period. The relation between the cancer effects and the possible epigenetic marks modulated by nutritional supplementation will be studied in hepatic tissue. The project is in accordance to UKCCCR and is approved by Ethics Committee for Animal Experimentation, under the protocol number 3424-1.
