Abstract

This project intends to analyze how the news wander through Portugal and Spain and how they were used in the conception of the firsts newspapers of these countries. It's knows the growing search for news by Europeans, not only by discoveries, but also by the increase of educated people in this continent. Besides the news about the New World and others parts of Europe were also used by the government, and most of newspapers were just printed with royal permission. So we intend to analyze famous newspapers of 17th century second half, like Gazetas and Mercúrios, to determine the communications network who made the info travel big distances and be used in these publications. Our aim is tell about the construction of these news, analyzing the newspapers as historical sources, facing them as final results of the environment where they were and inserted among familiar, governmental and aristocratic relationships.
