Abstract

The work of the Cape Verdean writer Orlanda Amarilis has been translated into several languages (Italian, Spanish, Russian, German, English, Hungarian and Dutch) and has been studied by Brazilian researchers within the African Literatures of Portuguese Language, within the most important universities in the country. However, an edition of her stories has not been held in Brazil and even her name appears in anthologies of African writers present in Brazilian publications. The proposal strives to produce an elaborate anthology of Orlanda Amarilis' short stories in order to make the Brazilian readers discover this consecrated writer - equated with Clarice Lispector, Lygia Fagundes Telles and Lydia Jorge - and also more accessible circulation of her work in academia itself because researchers rely solely on their first Portuguese editions of difficult access. The collection of her dispersed work - short stories published in literary magazines and anthologies during the years 70 to 90 - as well as the comparison of these early versions to later, organized by her and published in books - "Cais-do-Sodré té Salamansa "1975", "Ilhéu dos Pássaros", 1982 and "A Casa dos Mastros", 1989 - shows the route of the author and the way she writes, therefore being the starting point for the development of this research. The Brazilian anthology of Orlanda Amarilis is relevant both for the further development of research in academia as to conclude an indispensable work for the understanding of Cape Verdean Literature.
