Abstract

This research aims to examine race relations in childhood at school environment in order to identify ways of production and reproduction of racial prejudice both in attitudes and behavior. Although race relations consist of a traditional theme of Brazilian sociology, the study of this theme during childhood is newer and less frequent. In addition, the latest research on the subject was held before a series of political and institutional steps towards the promotion of racial equality and the fight against racism, like the Law 10.639/2003, which makes compulsory the teaching of African History in Elementary and High School. The research will use a qualitative methodology, and will be held in two primary schools in the city of São Paulo. At the end of the research, therefore, we intend to produce an updated diagnosis on race relations during childhood at school after the new political and institutional measures in the area, increasing the knowledge on the subject.
