Abstract

Canine distemper is a contagious disease important, with high rate of mortality and multisystem involvement. The demyelinating leukoencephalitis is the main neuropathological changes observed, and its little known pathogenesis. The breakdown of the blood brain barrier (BBB) with viral penetration and leukocyte infiltration are crucial aspects in the development of demyelinating encephalitis. Thus, the present study has as main scope to establish the profile of serum proteins dogs with distemper in neurological phase, through electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gel containing sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS-PAGE), in the serum of healthy dogs - group control (GCON, n = 10) and naturally infected dogs by canine distemper virus, the neurological stage of the disease - distemper group (Gcin, n = 10) with the aim of evaluating the serum proteins and their role in the pathogenesis of the disease.
