Abstract

The present project aim to study the private libraries of professors and students of the Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de São Paulo (University of São Paulo Law School) in the period of 1850 at 1890 by the investigation of the post-mortem inventories. The research may establish the characteristics of professional and political activities of readers and the relation between their libraries. Moreover, these data may show the probable changes in the libraries over time related to the economy and politics transformations in Brazil, particularly in Sao Paulo. The identification of the politics titles and the foreign book editions leads to knowledge the circulation of international ideas notably the republican and liberal thought. (AU)
