Abstract

The interaction between mother and child begins to be built even during pregnancy. The birth of a baby who needs special care can affect the interaction with his mother. Among the many diseases affecting children, Down Syndrome (DS) stands out for causing global changes in human development. Increasing studies on mother-infant interaction have proven the importance of considering the bidirectionality and reciprocity of the dyad, rather than consider them independent. In recent years, due to the high incidence of DS, several studies have been developed, however, still exist, gaps in understanding of the changes and transformations that characterize the development of these children, especially in the early stages of its development. Know how to give the interactions between mothers and babies with Down Syndrome can assist in the production of knowledge on the subject and provide clues to interventions with this population. This study aims to describe and compare the interaction of mother-baby dyads with and without DS, describe their socio-demographic profiles and correlate these variables with the results of mother-infant interaction. The sample will include 20 mothers of infants and 20 mothers with no DS, diagnosable in the first year of life, between five and six months of both sexes. Socio-demographic data will be collected through the Sociodemographic Information Collection Instrument (ICIS) prepared for this study. For analysis of the interaction will be used Early Mother-Child Interaction Coding System (CITMI-R ALVARENGA; CEREZZO, 2013). The data will be submitted to t test of Student for statistical analysis comparing the two groups involved. Also they will be used the Spearman tests or Person for correlation analysis of the behavior of interaction with maternal sociodemographic variables.
