Abstract Mammary tumors are very common in bitches and show similar biological behavior to their human counterparts, making the female dog a model to comparative studies. Regarding prognosis, many factors are considered, such as tumor size, regional and distant metastasis, histological diagnosis and others. For relapse monitoring, animals need to be submitted to a periodical series of clinical and image exams, which generates anxiety and additional costs to their owners. There is a lack of accurate methods to monitor disease and determine prognosis in canine mammary tumors. In women, the use of serological markers to determine prognosis is well stablished and that is an useful method to follow up the patient since diagnosis. Thus, the aim of the present study is to evaluate the utilization of serological markers (CEA, CA 15-3 and Alphafetoprotein) in bitches with mammary tumors to stablish its utility as prognosis markers and relapse monitoring in these patients. Results will be evaluated according to the presence and quantification of each marker in the sera of patients, the biological behavior of neoplasia and the occurrence of metastasis and relapse. Statistical analysis will be conducted by Tukey Test (p <0.05). | |
