Abstract

The present proposal is related to an ongoing grant of Iniciação Científica (2015/13533-2), aiming at introducing the student to the physics of cosmic rays and in particular to the simulation of antimatter events detected by the AMS-02 experiment. The main goal of this proposal is to give the student the possibility to work for a period of 5 weeks in "the headquarter" of the AMS-02 Collaboration, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, (CERN), located in Geneva, Switzerland, where the student will have regular exchanges with the simulation and software experts of the AMS-02 experiment. The student will work on the simulation of cosmic ray positrons, in the GeV to TeV range. The student will also have the opportunity to participate to the data taking of the AMS-02 experiment, from the control room located at CERN. The research will be carried on under the supervision of Professor Sadakazu Haino, a recognized expert in the field of space borne cosmic ray detectors, who has been working in AMS-02 since ten years. Professor Haino is one of the key scientists of the Collaboration. He gave outstanding contributions in the simulation as well as reconstruction software of the AMS-02 experiment. (AU)
