Lettuce and rocket cultivated in no tillage on B. ruziziensis straw in the summer

Abstract

Increase vegetable yield in the summer is the most challenge of the horticulture, especially in warm regions such as the West of São Paulo state. Some techniques can be used to reduce the air and soil temperature, such as no tillage associated with cover crops. Studies of vegetable yield in the summer with sustainable soil management, as well as the adaptability of vegetable crops cultivars to the planting on cover crops are issues that need to be studied in the summer season in warm regions. The objective of this work is evaluate the adaptability of different lettuce and rocket cultivars to no tillage associated to B. ruziziensis straw in the summer. The impact of these techniques on crop productivity, weed pressure and soil temperature will be evaluated. Two experiments will be carried out in a randomized complete block design in a split-plot arrangement with four replications. Two different soil management (no tillage associated to B. ruziziensis straw and tillage) and four lettuce cultivars ("Solaris", "Vanda", "Vera" and "Amanda") will be evaluated. Two successive crops will be planted in the same area. Different soil management (no tillage associated with B. ruziziensis straw and tillage) rocket varieties ("Cultivada", "Selecta" and "Folha larga") will be evaluated. The data will be submitted to analysis of variance and the means compared by Tukey test at 5% of probability.
