Abstract

Our research group has been specializing on the study and development of non-cyanide baths and in the absence of citrate anions to the electrodeposition of alloys, since cyanide bath exhibit high toxicity and bath containing citrate may decompose during the deposition process. Our laboratory has interest in the study of the electrodeposition of Fe-Mo and Fe-W containing P, since is reported in the literature that alloys of iron containing phosphorus, may have a number of properties, for example, corrosion resistance. The Fe-Mo, Fe-P and Fe-W electrodeposition baths are generally based on citrate, which are very sensitive to changes in pH of the bath. As mentioned above, citrate may be reduced at the cathode, producing organic substances that make the control of the process difficult. Thus, this project is intended to produce electrodeposits of Fe-Mo-P and Fe-W-P on copper substrate, in the presence of NTA (nitrilotriacetic acid), as an alternative to the citrate-based baths used in the deposition of Fe-Mo alloys, Fe-W and Fe-P. The characterization of electrodeposits of Fe-Mo-P and Fe-W-P will be performed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM); Energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS); X-ray diffraction (XRD); X-ray fluorescence and corrosion tests. Moreover, magnetic characterization of these electrodeposits will be performed.
