Abstract The determination of body mass of an animal is extremely important as indicative of development; however this measurement is influenced by the gastrointestinal content. This could be avoided by the use of empty body mass. Since the empty body mass determination involves the slaughter of the animal, and many times strategic decisions are made for live animals, it is desirable to have a way to estimate empty body mass. Therefore, the objective of this study is to develop models to predict empty body mass of growing goats. In addition, to verify the effect of genotype, development stage and sex in the equations to predict body mass: empty body mass ratio. For this study, we will use a database composed by individual information of body mass and empty body mass of 335 animals from thesis and dissertation concluded between 1989 and 2014. The development of linear regression equations we will use the MIXED procedure of the Statistical Analysis System software (SAS, version 9.4). The 'study' will be considered as random effect, and sex and phase as fixed effect. | |
