Abstract

Throughout the development of animal many metabolic changes occur that are mediated and influenced by several factors that have not been well explored in goats, in their different stages of growth. These changes will particularly affect the body composition and consequently the nutritional requirements of animals and their carcass characteristics. Thus, there is the goal with this project to determine the nutritional requirements for maintenance and growth in Saanen goats (n = 30) with body weight ranging from 30 to 45 kg. At the beginning of the experiment will be slaughtered six animals to represent the initial body composition. Six other animals will be fed at will and be killed to reach 37.5 kilograms PC. The rest of the animals will be distributed at three different levels of feeding (ad libitum, 30% and 60% of food restriction). The animals submitted to food restriction (30 and 60%) will have their consumption calculated on the amount consumed by the animal fed ad libitum. To determine the requirements will be the comparative slaughtering technique. It will also be held collection of feces, urine for determining the digestibility of nutrients, the nitrogen balance and energy partition.
