Abstract

Gripopterygidae is a circum-antartic family with about 100 species recorded in South America. In Brasil, there are 50 species recorded, 14 of these belonging to the genus Paragripopteryx, which has a distribution from mointainous areas of southern Bahia, through the Southeast and South Regions of Brazil to Uruguay. In view of current knowledge about the genus, there is the need for revision of the genus. This project aims to contribute to the increase of systematic knowledge about Gripopterygidae (Plecoptera), especially for the Paragripopteryx. There are at least two new species to be described from previously collected material. In addition, the fact of nymphs of most species are not yet described. Thus, a database on the genus will be organized and will be the basis for the systematic study. The specific objectives are: 1) to propose a phylogenetic relationship hypothesis for the species of Paragripopteryx; 2) to describe new species of Paragripopteryx; 3) to associate Paragripopteryx nymphs to adults through morphological and molecular analyzes, the later by obtaining COI sequences of the species; 4) to describe the associated nymphs; 5) to prepare an identification key for Paragripopteryx; 6) to relate distributional aspects of the species of Paragripopteryx in an attempt to infer the biogeography of the taxon; 7) to build an online database (website) on Gripopterygidae occurring in Brazil. This project will continue the research line of the adviser and involve collaborators from several national and international institutions. (AU)
