Abstract

The conventional dentures are still considered standard treatment for edentulism, although in many cases not be able to get the full success. The constant mandibular bone resorption edge with the tooth loss generates lack of retention and stability of the lower prosthesis, causing great discomfort to the patient, the prosthetic implant of the type overdentures can solve, in most cases, problems associated with the use of conventional prosthetic devices. Regarding the type of retention of overdentures, the o-ring system has great advantages, especially for geriatric patients, group where there is a higher prevalence of edentulism. However, the disadvantage of this type of housing is the need to periodically exchange the capsule sealing ring. The objective of the study is to evaluate a new capsule model and compare with conventional, and to evaluate the deformation of them by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). For this will be tested 40 capsules (n = 20) of two different materials: polytetrafluoroethylene (Teflon) and polyacetal; It will be inserted and removed of mini-implants with Ø 2.0 mm per 10 mm length coupled with the o-ring (MDL; Intra-Lock System, Sao Paulo, SP) by means of a machine fatigue strength and performance compared with conventional capsules. After that, the capsules will be evaluated by SEM in order to verify possible deformations. Performed the analyzes proposed, the data obtained will be subjected to appropriate statistical analysis to obtain the results.
