Abstract

This research has as object of study the presence of the Spanish mystic poet São João da Cruz in the books of the contemporary Portuguese writer Maria Gabriela Llansol, highlighting the Geografia de Rebeldes Trilogy, consisting of O Livro das Comunidades (1977), A Restante Vida (1982) e Na Casa de Julho e Agosto (1984). The Carmelite mystic and author of "Cántico Espiritual", "Llama de Amor Viva" and "Noche Oscura" appears recreated in literary text by Llansol in a way that's interesting to observe and to analyze the different forms of appropriation of this poet of the sixteenth century by a contemporary text. We consider this route the controversial history of the mystical poetry reception since its production environment, as well as Llansol's performative dynamics of writing, which brings the books dialogue with different thinkers and writers, who were left by side on the canon of their time.
