Abstract

This project is a way to broaden the aims of a doctoral project in progress, called "Evaluation of an intervention program of Trial-Based Therapy in patients with Social Anxiety Disorder". This doctoral project aims to propose and to evaluate an intervention program for individual Trial-Based Therapy (TBT) for patients with Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) in order to investigate its effects on social anxiety and on attentional bias, and to compare the results with two groups: one, a group of participants diagnosed with SAD who do not receive any intervention; and the other, a group of participants who do not have SAD. The present project is proposed as a research internship abroad, and it adds new specific aims to the broader study: to make a theoretical and qualitative comparison between TBT intervention and a traditional Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) intervention that has proven to be effective for SAD treatment. Another aim of this project is to perform statistical analysis of research data obtained in the original doctoral project, seeking to learn and to use new tests that can be helpful in the comprehension of these data, and the evaluation about efficacy of TBT treatment that was conducted during data collection. The material to be analyzed is publication data regarding SAD treatment from Professor Stefan Hofmann's group and TBT, and through the observation of 13 intervention videos for SAD that are available in his laboratory. For statistical analysis data collected during TBT intervention, pre and posttest from three groups will be used, in order to evaluate possible differences between them and TBT treatment.
