Abstract

The goal of this project is to develop a comparative study on the existing research about gender violence in Brazil and in France, two countries whose history, political, economical, social and cultural situations are very distinct - which in itself justifies the proposed international comparison. We will ask ourselves how does gender violence manifest and how is the issue dealt with in those two countries from an academic/scientific/social/political point-of-view? In Brazil, we are researching the Revistas Acadêmicas Feministas, (CNPq/UNESP/Ar 2012-) where gender violence is a recurring subject during the period in question. In France, the work will be done both in academic journals specializing in gender research and feminism, such as the Cahiers du Genre (CNRS), or the Institut IRIS (CNRS/INSERM/EHSC), and in the reports of thematic research groups, such as Domination/Violence/Genre, led by Dr. Hélène Bretin and Dr. Élisabeth Anstett - where I will be collaborating. The analysis of research data about gender violence in both countries is meant to pinpoint the places where this social issue diverges or converges in each society, as even though it is a global problem, its manifestations are particular to each place, with diverse public policies and social responses.
