Abstract

This proposal refers to an internship at CIRMMT - Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology at McGill University, supervised by CIRMMT's Director, professor Marcelo Wanderley. The internship is scheduled to happen from January 19 to March 20, 2015. The main goal is to study the relationship between artistic experimentation and the concept of experiment within the sciences. This work is the initial part of a broader research that addresses the issue of musical experimentalism. During this two month period I intend to develop a framework that will serve as the groundwork for establishing connections between the conception of scientific experiment and artistic experimentalism. For this purpose I will analyse musical experimental practices and their relationship with scientific thought. I will also analyse certain conflicts that pervade modern artistic production and, thereafter, discuss the relationship between the concepts of experiment and experimental within contemporary music production.
