Abstract

This study will evaluate the mechanical properties (flexural strength and hardness) and surface properties (roughness) of infiltrated or glazed monolithic zirconia after simulation of physiological stress. Will be made 198 zirconia discs (14 mm diameter, 1,2 mm thickness). The specimens will be polished with SiC abrasive paper # 400, 600, 800 and 1200. The specimens will be divided in three groups, in the first group 66 discs will be infiltrated with silica and divided into two subgroups (n = 33). Other 66 discs will be glazed and also divided into two subgroups (n = 33), and third group, the specimens will be polished with abrasive rubbers and divided into two subgroups (n = 33). Only one group of each treatment will be subjected to wear with steatite stone, in order to simulate the physiological stress. The other groups are the controls. The specimens will then be subjected to profilometry analyze (roughness), hardness analyze and biaxial bending test (ISO 6872) with immersion in water. The strength values (MPa) will be ranked and subjected to Weibull analysis to calculate the Weibull modulus and characteristic strength of the material (CI 95%). The samples will also be analyzed by SEM to visualize the wear and determination of fracture characteristics (fractography). (AU)
